Richard Wiseman spent lots of time studying luck. He observed those who considered themselves 'lucky' and 'unlucky.' And to summarise, it came down to how the perceived life and that their 'luck' was completely changeable.
And similarly to when I mentioned The Imitation Game yesterday and how the cast were thrilled to have won that won Oscar amidst tons of awards snubbings, Richard says that those who get bronze in things like the olympics are usually happier than those who get silver!
This is because those who get silver tend to lament the fact that they almost got gold if they could've done a little better. Whereas those who got bronze, consider the fact that if they had done a little worse, they wouldn't have got anything at all. (Although, thinking about it, I might have got annoyed I didn't get silver but hey!). In other words, the absolute absoluteness of the award (or thing that you want in life) isn't the case, but how you view it in relation to everything else.
When told about a scenario about how they were shot in the arm at a bank robbery. The 'lucky' people spoke about how it could've been a lot worse, so they felt grateful. One 'lucky' person came up with the idea that you could even sell your story to the newspapers (wow, that is real positive thinking!) Whereas the 'unlucky' people thought it was an awful thing to be shot. Again, the power of perception and focusing on the good in a situation (or as we encourage- a list of positive aspects).
Richard taught all of them positive focusing techniques, exercises which helped them break their daily routine of negativity. And he reports:
"At the start of the article
I described the unlucky life of Patricia. She
was one of the first people to take part in Luck
School. After a few weeks carrying out some simple
exercises, her bad luck had completely vanished.
At the end of the course, Patricia cheerfully explained
that she felt like a completely different person.
She was no longer accident-prone and was
much happier with her life"
So there you go! Focus positively and look for as many wonderful things in every situation and watch how your 'luck' can change!!!
Happy lucking!!! Lots of love, Nick Xxx
