Frequently Asked Questions About Work And Career
Welcome to the Frequently Asked Questions section dealing with work, career and hobbies.
As always, these are just my opinions. Use your own gut to work out what your truth is. Please seek appropriate professional help before making any major life changes.
There is no career you ‘should’ be doing! There is only the career you want to be doing. Although this has changed over the centuries, it has been very much the case that your career was something you studied hard for at school and the job you had was the job for life. Whilst there is much more change in one’s career progression, it still can be the case that what you studied for and have had many years of experience in, is the field you should stick with for your lifespan. If you change paths constantly, then this can be frowned up by those around you and potential recruiters.
However, you want to follow your passion, to do what really lights you up. This doesn’t mean that at the soonest opportunity, you would drop your job in your office and go try to make it as a performer (although this is an option). It means that you want to really look for things that make you feel good, that you thoroughly enjoy. Even it just means incorporating it into your life in a small way.
This also doesn’t mean that your full time job has to be off the wall crazy fun, but that you enjoy where you are wherever you are. It doesn’t matter what you’re doing, but it matters that you feel good in the doing of it. I recall reading a story of a woman who was generally unhappy, she didn’t like her job or anyone there. The author told her to go for a period of time, round her office as though she really made a difference. So she made an effort to greet everyone, to bring in flowers, smile at those around her and so forth. By the end of that week she enjoyed being at her workplace so much and so her colleagues loved her.
By shifting your vibration and making peace with where you are, you either extract the best of that place, so it doesn’t matter where you are and/or a better opportunity comes your way. Your job isn’t to decide whether to stay or go, your work is to look for as many things to appreciate about where you are and then the right career path will light up for you. You want to make a career out of feeling good then the inspiration will present itself to you- whether it’s one job for life, or several jobs each week or a main job and a side job. There are many ways to live a satisfying life and so there is not one career you should be doing other than a career of doing your best to feel good and letting the rest follow.
I personally believe that your life purpose is simply to experience and the goal is that of joy. That is it! I believe that we are all energy, individual beings of consciousness that are constantly in motion. This life experience is just a point of focus for you here and now. I like to see this life as a holiday. Your energy was looking down from its higher beingness of non physical, saw this planet Earth and thought ‘I would like to go forth and experience life as a human being on Earth.’ And whenever the time is right- if it’s one hour, one year or one hundred years old, you will leave this physical body and rejoin non physical, ready for the next adventure. We can make far too much of where we are, wherever we are. This experience is just a speck of dust in relation to the eternal, everlasting beingness that is the wonderful you.
Abraham speaks of the triad of intentions we come forth with: joy, growth and freedom. Many of us make the mistake of believing that it is all about the growth, the having to do or be something. That we must always be learning and doing and pushing to get stuff done. However, joy should be our priority. Your purpose in this life is feel good, to seek joy as much as possible, then all else will follow. Your growth and expansion will come about naturally through the living of life, you cannot help but grow in every minute of every day because you are constantly asking, emitting vibrational preferences of what you do and don’t want. So the growth is already taken care of, just by being the conscious you.
Freedom is the inherent reaching for, of your spirit. You are free to choose what you think and how you feel. Although many feel slave to their emotions, it really should be the other way round. You are in control of your life, because you get to direct your attention and this is more important than anything. You are a freedom seeking being and whenever you feel stifled, you want to lash out because you’re feeling free is so wildly important to you. Whenever someone says to you ‘Stop doing that!’ doesn’t it make you want to do it all the more- to express to them and yourself that you get to choose what you do and that you are not a subordinate to anyone.
It is important to know the above are what your soul naturally reaches for so you can do your best to accommodate these feelings into your daily beingness.
On a practical basis, your life purpose can be described as a ‘calling,’ it’s that drive you have within you to do something in particular whether it’s something creative or artistic, business or technology, cooking or something else. There are infinite ways to be occupationally satisfied. Do a review of your life, what did you enjoying doing as a child? What would you do for free, simply for the satisfaction of it? It’s highly likely you’ll start to notice common threads and patterns in what you chose to do.
Above all, make it your life purpose to reach for better feeling, fun and enjoyable things and then the path will make itself known to you easily and effortlessly.
This is completely up to you and what you feel comfortable doing. This can be a hot area of debate, especially for those who are on the other side of the argument and don’t believe that spiritual services should carry a charge. In terms of labour there is no difference between manufacturers of physical items for example mobile phones or computers than there is for a painting you have created. Nor is there any difference between a service offered such as a haircut or babysitting and giving someone a psychic reading or life coaching.
You are physically manifested and you have to survive in this realm, so it is only fair that if that you need to make a living you should be well recompensed for your skills and services. Others can deem spiritual services as somewhat fluffy and perhaps nonsense which is why they don’t believe you should be paid for your time. In which case I would say there is no convincing them as they don’t even believe in the product. However, you have to factor in the years of study, practise and dedication required to be a half decent offerer of spiritual material, there is also the cost of attending seminars, books and other materials. I took some psychic development courses a while back and they are quite pricey but moreover, it would take me years of work to be good at that, so anyone who can provide accurate readings has my respect.
If you are happy to charge no fee or a minimal fee especially if you’re starting out and making a name for yourself then that is wonderful. On the other hand, if you have the consciousness to charge a high fee, then set your vibrational tone and allow the right people to come to you. Whatever you do, make sure you are behind your decision 100% and don’t let anyone else tell you otherwise. Trust that you will attract the right people who are ready to hear what you have to say and will be positively affected by your services. Jerry Hicks used to affirm that he either wanted to uplift people or leave them where they were, in other words he didn’t want to negatively influence them.
Feel what it would feel like to have the clients of your choosing- what qualities would they have? How much would they be happy to pay? How would an ideal session go? Put all these wonderful pre pavings into thought and writing before charging ahead into your business and things will go much easier for you as you are sending out the vibrations of what you want and not what you don’t want.
If someone criticises you for what you’re charging or the work you’re doing then do the best to appreciate them (or at the very least ignore their negativity). Trust in the purity of your heart and your intention to do well. You will then become more and more in demand and then you can charge as much or as little as you want!
The amount you charge for what you offer doesn’t matter as much as that you feel comfortable with what you are charging. This in turn will create a strong vibration and those who are ready for you will find you and be willing and able to pay what you set as your fee.
On a practical, action level, look out into the world and see the variety that is out there (which is good advice for any type of life data collation). Gauge what level and experience others out there have and how much they charge and see how comfortable you feel in relation to all of that. At the end of the day you charge what you want and line up with it.
So if you’re starting out want to charge a lower amount, then tell yourself that it is just your initial steps in getting out there and that you’re so happy what you’re doing that you’d do it for free because you love it so much. And know that you’ll get lots of customers and when you’ve developed more confidence and reputation then you can charge a higher amount. Or set a higher price and know you’ll draw customers to you who love what you do and are easily able to pay whatever you decide to charge because they adore the work you do and deem it worthy.
It’s also incredibly important to not charge a price because ‘that’s what other people say you should’ or because of what you think other people will think about you. So don’t charge a lower price because you think you are not worthy of charging a higher price and then complain that you can’t make enough money and feel resentment that you’re being paid such a low amount. Nor don’t charge a high amount and think that people will be unable to afford you or that you’re somehow not worth it.
Make the excitement about the experience and the sharing of your skills your priority then make all your decisions from this place of feeling good and well being. Some people might cancel appointments or engagements because they’re not breaking even or it’s costing them a bit of money to do it and it’s understandable to do this if it is really going to hurt their finances, however this can be a very short term view, you want to put the best of yourself forward and get your reputation out there- one satisfied customer tells another, then tells another and it grows. If you can have the mindset of ‘I touched this one person with my talents and I found it so wildly satisfying that even if I got paid a huge amount or it cost me a little bit, I’m still so thrilled to have that person come and allow me to share my skills with them. Put the enjoyment and flowing of energy through you at the top of your priority list and then see what happens!
Sift and sort through what’s out there, experiment with it and then over time you’ll find what works for you. Combine your brain, logic, gut feeling and experience and you’ll carve out the right pricing, customers and system which works for you and let no one tell you otherwise. A million people could be pushing against you with their opposing opinions but they have zero impact on your life, unless you push back. Especially in the field of business and freelancing, is it important to know yourself and your worth and when you’re in alignment with you and you, everyone will be amazed, in awe (and maybe even a bit jealous!) as to how successful you are!
It is up to you and how drastic the situation is if you should leave your job now. It is never our encouragement to stay in a place where you are unhappy, especially if you are enduring mental or physical abuse from someone or if you are experiencing another similarly depressing situation. However, it is worth clearing up your vibration where you stand, wherever you stand. This are a few reasons to this: first of all, if you are able to train yourself to focus in the worst of situations, then it much easier to focus when things are better, because it is easy to feel bad when the circumstances around you are bad, and it’s easy to feel good when what surrounds you is pleasing. But to feel good when things are awful- now this is true mastery and what I believe is the key to life. Second of all, making peace with where you are is one of the quickest (if not the quickest) way to get you where you want to be. People say ‘If I appreciate my ex, does that not mean I will draw them back to me?’ This is not the case, because as you raise your vibration, the Universe brings you what you really want. As you work to make peace with where you are, the Universe will rearrange everything to please you. Either the circumstances will change, the people themselves will change, stay out of your way or you will only rendezvous with the best of them because your vibration is a match to their highest self. Thirdly, it could be worth you working on your vibration because odds are that the vibration which created that situation can be traced to a familiar pattern to you. If you’re being bullied, or victimised, have you felt this way growing up or in other situations? If you’re just bored by your job, then do you find that you get bored easily in other areas of your life? As you are able to be aware enough to know where your vibration is and can work to change it then you need never be in a dissatisfying place ever again! Not because what surrounds you is or isn’t rubbish, but because you’ve tuned your focus so finely that you can enjoy and see the best in everything.
The major advantage to upping and leaving a horrible situation is that you are given a break from the negativity. You are giving yourself time and space to breathe and allowing yourself to break the spell of the doom and gloom. From this fresh perspective it can be easier to focus on feeling good and allowing in what you want. Especially if you hold the mentality that there are many jobs out there and borne out of that fresh determination, you move forward in a powerful state.
A side note referring back to the vibration which created the bad situation in the first place, is that the vibration is still within you. So it may crop up in other areas of your life, so it’s worth as always, being aware of how you’re feeling and consequently how this is manifesting in your life. That is the basic tenet of the Law Of Attraction, the vibrational essence of what you send out is what you attract. So, for example, if you’re being bullied at work- the essence of what you’re feeling might be a victim (this is just one example) and so a match to this could be you being dismissed by your parents. Different external situations, but the essence is that of victim. So my point with this example is that it is in your best interest to clean up your vibration to feel good most importantly but also to release any unwanted manifestations.
So as always, we aren’t telling you whether to stay and endure or leave and abandon. What we are telling you is that what is likely to serve you best is to work your vibration into as good as place as you can (by feeling good, appreciating or at least making peace with where you are) and then allow things to unfold.
No, you don’t. Action in the grand scheme of things plays a lot smaller part in the whole equation of success than people think. You want to line up your vibration first and foremost. It is an individual perspective which differs greatly- there are many out there who really don’t do too much to attain and maintain wealth, they have setup systems in place which allows their income to flow in easily and effortlessly. On the other hand there are many of those in the world who from the outside work tremendously hard but to that person, it just doesn’t feel like that as they are loving so much what they are doing, it feels more like fun than work. In an interview with Piers Morgan, Beyonce said something along the lines of ‘Those 72 songs I wrote in my year off did not feel like work.’ Those such as these are following their passion and their creations connect them with their inner being and they are truly working from a place of inspiration. And the millions and billions of dollars they are generating cannot be created simply through action- there simply aren’t enough man hours in a day to account for this exponential success. However, when you combine, inspired, focused vibration, thought and action, then you’re having fun and drawing to you the success you think you desire.
It is also important to note the basis of that desire. Is it simply you are avoiding (and therefore activating in your vibration) the need to work hard, because your underlying vibration will take precedence. You cannot get there from there- you can’t wish to have success without having to work hard, without activating the ‘work hard’ part. There is no such thing as ‘no’ in this attraction based Universe. It can be very easy to see this Law Of Attraction work and think you can easily sit home and visualise for abundance. And whilst this is possible, for most people this doesn’t match what they truly believe.
You have to work in alignment with your beliefs. If your belief is such, that all you would do is sit at home and know abundance and success will flow your way, then this can happen. However, for the majority of people, it is easier to see that putting in hours of work will equate to earning money. You came here to experience the best that physical life has to offer, so get out there and mix it up. Do what you enjoy and know that success, joy, money and all that you want will flow. Work is just one area of your life that you get to mould the energy. Have fun with it.
What I would suggest, is to affirm and send out the intention for fun, enjoyable, ease filled work which pays extremely well. Start in a nice general place and see what happens. If this gets fulfilled easily, then play with the energy and see what else you can create. If things are a bit slow, then either try distracting yourself from the subject altogether or apply one of the many processes to shift your vibration. It is all a game and an experience. The key is to figure out what works for you, line up with it and see how the Universe can deliver results which will blow your mind!
This is quite a common scenario, either when someone has finished their studies or is in between jobs (or maybe even just being spoilt for choice). My biggest piece of advice is to move forward in the faith that there are no ‘wrong’ decisions, that you can learn and make the best of whatever you choose. One of the biggest fears that most everyone has in this type of situation is that of getting it wrong. That if they get ‘stuck’ in their next job then that’s it and they will have lost time and it’s too late to change and so on. The worry that runs through their heads can be debilitating. And ironically enough, if you’re dominant vibration is that of ‘doing the wrong thing’ (whatever that means!) then guess what- that is what they will attract!
The fastest way to get to where you want to go is: to make peace with where you are and know that whatever comes your way, is going to be great. ‘Things are always working out me’ is a wonderful affirmation to keep repeating, especially in times of contrast!
If it’s the case that you don’t know what to do, then I suggest mentally projecting yourself out there and mixing up the energy (this is good general advice if you don’t know what you want from life). Pick a field of work and see yourself doing it- as you put your unresisted vibration out into the world, then things will start to fall in your lap, conversations will be about that job, you will see adverts. And if it’s inline with the good that is to come your way then it will make itself more known to you, through gut feelings and circumstances around you. This is a great way to develop your preferences- send out the mental image and see how you feel about it.
Another common scenario is that people have to choose between something ‘boring and stable’ or something more ‘creative or enjoyable.’ There are a few options with how best to proceed in this situation. Firstly, you must line up with your choice, so ultimately whatever you do, give it 100% of your energy and focus. So, choose the more stable job and appreciate the abundance and reliability it offers you, know that with sufficient planning, you can fit in more creative endeavours in your spare time. Or choose the more creative job and know that you can earn good money and have enough working hours. Know that you can support yourself and perhaps do other work part time to supplement yourself. As with all decisions it doesn’t matter what you choose, just line up with it. Definitely do not go crossways with your energy and do the more stable job but complain and lament that you’re not doing something more fun. Nor do the creative job and worry that your bills aren’t going to get paid.
Another option is to take the work that you are more certain of and gradually plan in more time to explore the creative work so you are definitely moving toward a full time path in that chosen job but not all at once. This can be a wise option as there are those who get so frustrated with their current job, they quit it, throw themselves head first into another career they think they want to do, and feel themselves getting more stressed and resentful as this new job doesn’t fulfil them on all the levels they want. This is another example how you cannot get there from there! To leave a place with a bad vibration is likely to attract another unequally pleasing job. This is because you take yourself with you and your point of attraction is the same, unless you have taken the time to shift it.
To summarise, whatever you do, give it your all, support yourself constantly by telling yourself reassuring thoughts and not worrying, be easy about it and do your best to feel good wherever you are and see what well being the Universe delivers you with!
That is a wonderful thing! If this Universe has inspired you to do your best and work towards your fullest potential then that is brilliant. I would ask the question why do you want what you want? If it simply you enjoy your work so much and you just want to excel and lead then I would encourage you to hold on to that wonderful feeling of life flowing through you. You may wish to employ some more direct techniques to raise your vibration such as: scripting, visualisation or speaking as if it’s already happened. If you’re already confident in your field and you’re just wanting to continue and improve then these are great techniques to try out. Do them and be as specific as feels good, you can do goal setting and really focus on what you want out of the situation. If you’re enjoying what you’re doing then this should be reward enough and how well you do is just the icing on the cake. When you can really let go out of the outcomes and make sure you’re feeling as positive as you can about your work then this is the easiest path to allowing more and more good to make its way to you.
There may however, be some other reasons why you want to be the best. You may want to prove yourself to others. And whilst this can definitely be a successful driving force (think of all those A-list music and acting stars who were bullied when they were children). I feel that this is a trickier vibration to live with. Yes, you can think of the expansion they gave you by pushing you into powerful Step 1 and therefore making you put more in your Vortex, but in the activation of proving that you are ‘good enough,’ you are usually activating the vibration of ‘not good enough,’ and perpetuating the feelings of inferiority within yourself. Also, and perhaps more importantly, is that you cannot convince everyone- so as fabulous as you may be, there will always be someone who doesn’t agree. So you’re wasting your time trying to prove anything, just know within yourself that you are doing the best you can- this is one of the greatest successes you can achieve- to truly appreciate yourself and know your brilliance.
Similarly to the previous point, is that sometimes people want to be the best because they want to compensate for some inferiority that they feel within themselves. You can see usually see this in people who are overly competitive. In order to feel better about themselves, there is a desperate need to prove worthiness.
The easiest and fastest way to be the best is really make sure you are enjoying what you are doing, release the outcome and feeling good about yourself and the work you do. Then whether the accolades or praise comes or not it really won’t matter. All of that external stuff is transient and will change over time, what can be consistent is how good you feel and how much you enjoy yourself!
Apologies to break it to you but on some level you are negative. Simply because by the nature of Law Of Attraction you are attracting it. This might be either because your internal (and maybe external world) is quite negative. Be conscious of the conversations you are having at your workplace. One of the great teachers said record yourself in a conversation with a friend or go for a week (or perhaps even one hour) without complaining. You may think, ‘Well actually I make a big effort to think and be positive!’ and this may be true. In which case, then it is your attention to them and concentrating on ‘what is’ that is drawing more of it to you.
So, whatever the reason, they are in your experience as some reflection of something in your vibration. So don’t condemn them but use the situation as guidance. Thank yourself for being aware enough that what you are hearing goes against your good feelingness, because like the majority of the world, it would be very easy to go unaware and chime in with everyone complaining about the job and the woes of the world.
Firstly, if you aren’t already, then I would suggest not joining in the negative conversations (although it can be satisfying and tempting at times) but instead, thinking to yourself, as Louise Hay advises ‘That may be true for you but that is not the case for me.’ Creating a mental difference from what they are saying and affirming that it is not the way the world is for you but that it is simply their experience. You may also wish to just maybe nod and smile (or something equally disarming) and offer the odd reassuring sentence. This makes it clear that whilst you may be sympathetic it is not something you are going to contribute to. At which point, other people will get the hint that you are not going to complain with them. So they will either find you boring and won’t go there with you, or they will only come to you when they want to be uplifted.
The above tips work well with one person, if it’s a group conversation it can be a little bit trickier. However, one person in alignment is more powerful than millions who are not. So if you are truly in alignment with what you want and not giving attention to how things are, then by the very nature of your vibration you will positively affect the conversations and/or not be in the vicinity to hear them complain. Ask them not to change who they are because you can’t control conditions and other people, what you can control is how you react to it and that is everything. Use this as a chance to reinforce your internal knowing of wellbeing, how wonderful life is and how you create your reality. Just don’t push against it all but instead, set your vibrational tone and let everything else merge to match this.
First of all, start to acknowledge that you have been asking for more customers, success and abundance. So know this is ready and waiting for you in your Vortex of wellbeing. All you need to do is get into a space of allowing. So rest assured that your clients are all lined up vibrationally. One way of shifting vibration and this may sound a bit strange is to take your attention off the clients- or lack thereof and focus doing the best job you can do with what you have. In other words, start somewhere and make the most of where you are.
When you make your focus on the sensation of life flowing through you and make sure you are enjoying what you’re doing then this lifts your frequency and on both a spiritual and practical level you will attract more customers to you. Feel the difference between ‘Please purchase my product/service because I want to be successful and earn money’ and ‘OMG I just love love this thing and I have to share it with you because I know how much fun you’ll have experiencing it!’ Not only will you be sending out good vibes which other people can pick up on, you will start to act in inspired ways, you’ll be confident and draw more people to you who would be uplifted by what you offer. People can pick up desperation and usually don’t want have anything to do with it, but when you stand in that secure place of believing in yourself and what you have on offer, then it is inevitable that other people will want a piece of this. Customers will buy into it, because of who you are and what you represent and not necessarily the thing that you have to give them. Word of mouth is one of the most powerful forms of marketing, this is partly due to the fact that when one friend recommends to another about something wonderful they have just experienced, it is from a pure place of ‘I love this and hope you will too!’ There is a strong congruency between the words offered, underlying vibration and emotional basis offered when there’s passion there and that’s why word of mouth is as powerful as it is.
The two components you want to work on are: your belief in what you’re offering and the type of customer you would like to attract. Especially if it’s a service or a product you’ve created then you want to feel as good about this as you can about. Do this by activating the best qualities about what is on offer and make this your dominant vibration. So when you speak or write about it, you will be genuinely working from a place of enthusiasm and this will be infectious.
Also start thinking about the client profile that you want to attract. What age, occupation, stage of life that they are in, would you like to deal with? Because of the wonderful diversity of this planet and the fact that everyone is at a different vibration, there will always be an audience for something, it’s just a matter of you finding them, or rather, setting your tone so that they can find you.
So, your key priorities are to have fun, distract yourself or focus on how great your product is and what type of customer you would like. And let the Universe do the rest!
Whilst it can feel like there is a never ending list of things to do, especially in this day and age where we are all so interconnected and most anything can be done instantly in any part of the world (how wonderful is that), this is a shortage mentality, a poverty consciousness in relation to time. You are an eternal being and you will never get it done and you cannot get it wrong, so stop trying to rush through it all. Yes, there are time limits and deadlines but you will do yourself the greatest service by stopping to breathe and getting in the flow. When you are in alignment you will be inspired to take the easiest, most efficient steps to what you want. You will rendezvous with the people you need to at exactly the right time and so on. Haven’t you ever had a day where no matter what you did, everything was out sync and no matter how hard you tried, everything seemed to work against you? Well, you want the opposite of this, you want days where everything you do turns out perfectly.
Shortage is shortage, whether it’s money, love or time. It’s all emphasising the not-enoughness of something, which ultimately doesn’t serve you as it’s not good feeling. Begin to know that you have enough time to do anything. A positive action based way of dealing with this is simply to make a list of what you need to do. Every time you achieve one thing on that list, give yourself a tick mark. As you start to focus on what you are achieving and not how much needs to be done in how little time, then you will be inspired to do more. Procrastination will fall away as you start to encourage yourself- start somewhere, anywhere and do your best to pat yourself on the back on how much do.
The Placemat Process is a great technique to try which Abraham gave to Esther Hicks when she was feeling overwhelmed. With this technique you write down all that you need to do in that day, and you divide it into two lists- 1/ What you will commit to do 2/ What you would like to delegate to the Universe to do. Esther found that the Universe was a lot better and faster at getting more done that she was. Do this in the attitude of trusting that ‘I am not going to worry about this, I am handing it over to the Universe to deal with.’ As you release the resistance of all the tasks then it will all unfold in a perfect way for you.
Know in the abundance of all you have and the eternalness of your being and trust that you can have it all.
As always, these are just my opinions. Use your own gut to work out what your truth is. Please seek appropriate professional help before making any major life changes.
- What career should I be doing?
- What is my life purpose?
- Should I charge for my spiritual or artistic services?
- How much should I charge for my skills?
- I’m really unhappy and I want to ditch my job now. Should I?
- So, you’re saying I don’t have to work hard to be successful? I don’t like working hard.
- I’m at a crossroads. How do I decide what career to take?
- I want to be the best in my field!
- I am surrounded by negative people at work! How can I change this?
- How do I attract more customers?
- I don’t have enough hours in the day!
