For some reason, the Disney cartoon Dumbo popped into my head. I vaguely remember it from childhood, so I had to look up the full storyline. And wow, what a most beautiful tale it is!
A baby elephant born with huge ears, which others use as a reason to separate away from him. He becomes a pariah and befriends a little mouse. The mouse using a 'magical' feather and teaches Dumbo to fly!
It is only when he loses the feather, that he realises it wasn't the feather that helped him soar, it was his state of mind!
So many wonderful points from this children's tale. First- whatever you may perceive to be a disadvantage, reframe it and make it your strength! His big ears made him look ridiculous to others but they were his greatest asset in going beyond.
Second- you have the power within you all the time! Use whatever tools and techniques to line you beliefs up with your expectations, but know thy ultimately the power lies within self!
Thirdly, have a cheering squad! People who you trust and can share with. People who will offer a kind reassuring word when you need it. Alternatively, if this isn't possible, get some good teddies! Missy Elliott and countless other musicians and actors performed to a group of cuddly toys when growing up, now the whole world wants to listen!
