Wow, another summer of Wimbledon tennis to the max! It has been quite a smooth weather ride for the most part, which was nice.
I can only imagine Serena Williams' intense joy at winning yet another Grand Slam and being another step closer to rewriting history.
I did wonder though, how long does the joy last? And when does it begin to fade as she and the other competitors turn their attention to their next slams...
Much like the highly coveted multi million pound prizes of the lottery- the happiness begins to fade after a wee while and then the next stage of life kicks in.
And that's not a bad thing at all. I think it's just something to be mindful of- what you think you need to be happy (usually- more money, a soulmate, a good job etc) you don't need as much as you think. Or at least, it usually won't give you thrills everlasting...
Happiness is an inside job! The accolade, the trophy, the goal you really seek is joy. To feel as good as you can wherever you stand. If you can truly get your head round that, then life become a lot easier.
You're not meant to spend your whole life striving for something outside of yourself. But by all means use all that as your goal to focus, to have that life flow through you.
What is the Wimbledon title after all- being the best person to hit a ball back and forth over a net! But it's so much more than that- it's the sense of achievement of being focused and skilled enough to outplay the very best in the world! The admiration of your fans and not to mention the princely financial reward!
So go forth, in this game that we call life. Doing your best to rise to the challenges- sometimes you'll crash out in the first round, others you'll make the semi-finals and once in a while, ya never know- it could be you walking away with that coveted trophy!
P.S. Don't let anything stand in the way of your dream! Hingis' mixed doubles partner Leander Paes is the oldest man to win a grand slam- a grand age of 42! And he looks good for many years to come. Incidentally Serena and Roger Federer are pretty 'old' too, but are still kickin' ass!
Happy tennis-ing!!!
Lots of love, Nick Xxx
