I saw Ethan Hawke being interviewed and they were reviewing his career- which had been a little bit hit and miss. He was rather philosophical about it all and he was musing that you can't know how all the small things you do will add up to the web of the good thing at the end.

You just have to start somewhere, it doesn't matter where, just take that first step to self improvement and your dreams. Some things will land and you see good fruit from it, whereas others may feel like a waste of time, but don't be so quick to judge. Take it all as part of the expansion and learning. All the time knowing that it is contributing to the larger whole.

Step by step, bit by bit is the easiest, bestest way to go about these things. It's just more enjoyable as opposed to huge quantum ups and downs.

Enjoy it all for the pure fun of the journey.
