If I get a request when I’m DJing I’ll try my hardest to play it- I hated it when I used to go to clubs and the DJ would totally ignore my requests. Obviously it has to be appropriate but still! And I’ve learned so much from people’s requests and a lot of them have been adored by the crowd- it’s a win win!
Be open and humble and willing to learn. You can gain so much from it. There’s no need to be closed minded. Evaluate it- if it doesn’t sit with you then you can discard it but if there’s something of potential value, then give it a go!
