I am just loving the new series Up In The Air currently on ITV (UK). It follows Virgin Atlantic and their fortunes. I've only watched the first half of the first episode but it is fascinating. So much to appreciate and learn!
It opened by saying that they recently lost £51,000,000 in one year but they will continue to keep believing and trying! I've loosely followed the airline as I am quite the fan and will usually fly with them if they are heading to my destination. And they've had to cull a number of their destinations across the globe and scrap their Little Red UK service. But with what seems to be a successful merger with Delta air, they seem to be comfortably into profit at long last!
The amount of work the air staff have to do in terms of training (and beauty upkeep) is incredible. And all for a meagre starting salary of £12,500- it truly is for the passion (and travel) that they work.
They then cut to the design and delivery of the seats. Again, the amount of work that goes into it is tremendous! I think they said the Upper Class seat was something like £300,00 each! The stitching, exact colouring and all that stuff takes so much thought and design, it's incredible. It's interesting, it's really easy to think 'OMG, £5k (or whatever) for a flight in Upper Class, what a waste/I'd never pay that!' But when you see what goes into it, it gives you an insight into why it's priced the way it is! And it is SOOO worth it!!!
They follow the new recruits on their first flight and wow, they really have to work! I have new sympathy for them and will do my best to be patient and non complainy (not that I did too much!).
So yeah, just keep going, keep believing in your journey and dream. Give the best of yourself, paying attention to all the details and ya never know- you could be making millions in profit too!
Happy Virgin Atlantic-ing!!!
Lots of love, Nick Xxx
