I recently watched 'Inside Out' the Disney-Pixar film and OMG was it a good un! I highly recommend it if you're into all of this woo woo stuff!
It's basically looking into the mind of a child and briefly her parents. The main emotions are all personified as they vie for the main place of controlling the thoughts, memories and emotional state of the main character. It's very funny and shows the angst of growing up.
They explore complex concepts such as: dream states, memory storage, retrieval, abstract thought and much more!
The main character Joy is always happy, happy and encouraging everyone to be so. She introduces the other emotions- amongst them being: fear- this keeps us safe and disgust- this keeps us from eating potentially dangerous foods (in her case-broccoli!). It takes the whole film for joy to value the role of sadness.
One of the takeaway points is that each of the emotions has their time and place. The so called negative ones are there to keep us safe, to keep us in check.
The film concludes with a full integration, activation and meditation on the phases of growing up.
When they were developing the film, the teams behind it thought it might not be very popular with the general public due to the intricacy of the notions explored. But they tested it and found it sky rocketed in popularity. It has smashed the box office worldwide and continues to do so!
It's wonderful to see something like this hit a larger audience. It highlighted to me that with the right material and presented in a fun way, woo woo can be a mainstay in the public consciousness.
Such fun!!!
Happy Inside Out-ing!!!
