Today was spent on the island of Koh Samui. I had a day tour taking me to the major sights of the lovely island.
The tour included: visits to Buddha temples, the shopping centre and coconut picking monkeys!
We learnt about the Buddhist monk lifestyles and a bit about the Buddhist philosophy. Apparently (and I am definitely not an expert on this and could easily be wrong!), the main premise is to do good karma as they believe in the cycle of reincarnation. The more good you do, the better it is for your next life and the current respect of your family. The monks eat twice a day (8am and 11am- how do they do it?!?!), and they are offered food by the public- also helping them get good karma.
One component to enlightenment, is to release desire and to do your best to stay mindful of the present moment- this will help take you to happiness.
This poses an interesting point as within the Law Of Attraction philosophy, desire is a key component to your being here. It is through the sifting and sorting of life that you work out your preferences and give birth to new desired and take your next steps forth in life.
I think for me, the common link between the two philosophies is that of finding your peace, inner fulfilment and happiness with your life now.
Buddhism says that to release all desire will align you with inner peace, and we in Law Of Attraction teach you must find your inner peace and happiness first and foremost before manifestation occurs.
I think the biggest misconception is that doing this LOA work will bring you your stuff and that's the goal. But no, at least for me. I emphasise the value of feeling good first, aligning and then the manifestation will occur, by which point you don't need your stuff and the kicker is that because you don't need it- it will come!
So to sum up, it's a case of doing your best to find your inner alignment then letting go and the rest will follow- in whichever way is most important to you.
On a side note, the prices are amazing for a westerner! A massage for 40-60 mins is only about £4-6ish!!! Truly mind blowing!
We saw the amazing huge statues and temples of Buddha and Quan Yin (the Goddess of mercy and compassion). Stunning sights!
To end the day we saw monkeys picking coconuts- I am always blown away the different innovations across the world. The monkeys go to evening school for a few months (yes, evening school lol), and get trained to be able to climb the trees, spin the ripe coconuts and have it drop to the ground.
Tomorrow is an overnight stop in Bangkok! The place most everyone is looking forward. Apparently what happens in Bangkok stays in Bangkok- OMG!!!
See you soon!
Happy desiring/un-desiring!!!
Lots of love, Nick Xxx
