We really do live in quite an amazing time. Never have we been all so connected at the touch of a button from across the world, indulge in foodal treats from wherever we want and travel is available to a great number of us- or at least far more so than in the past!
Seeing Mary Berry’s reflections on her life growing up really makes you appreciate how much ease we have in our life today. In one of her early clips (probably dating from the mid 1900s!), she speaks about how you can make a dish with chicken and not the expensive beef. When she went to Paris, her secretary friends said they would visit her but she knew they wouldn’t because something like that would’ve been far too expensive.
Nowadays, we can get beef without much trouble for a decent price, Paris is as cheap as £36.50 via Eurostar (and probably even cheaper with Easyjet or Ryanair) and so forth. There is so much we can do that those centuries ago wouldn’t even have thought possible. And I’m sure, in the distant future people will look back on us and wonder how we ever survived without their tech and bits! So appreciate the magnificence of the wonderful now!
