It’s a horrible truism but the worse it gets, the worse it gets. Unless you take a conscious effort to undergo change you’re going to get stuck in a rut. With others, you can’t help those who won’t help themselves. You can take a horse to water but you can’t make them drink. In other words, you can bring and do all you can for someone else but ultimately, they have to choose whether to take the positive action.

And there’s only so much you can do! If they won’t do anything then you just gotta leave em be! You just got to love them and let them to their own devices. If you’re the lifeguard and the person keeps pulling you down, you’ve got to let them be, otherwise you’ll drag yourself down.
